Introduction

The establishment of UNESCO Chair on Water Reuse has been approved by UNESCO in 2013 and it has started its activities since 2014 officially. The chiarholder is Dr. Mohammad-Hossein Sarrafzaedh, a member of Faculty of Engineering in University of Tehran.

The objective of this chair is to make a connection between academic and executive sections in relation with water to overcome water scarcity challenge and managing wastewater as an unconventional water resource considering technical, environmental and economical aspects.

UNESCO Chair on Water Reuse was established with the intention of transforming the approach toward unconventional water sources, water recycling, and water reuse and started working with two slogans: "Water is a factor of partnership and friendship, not separation and war" and "Judge water based on its quality, not its history".

Providing suitable solutions for research, cultural and educational development, providing information and documentation regarding water recycling, and facilitating cooperation between scientific centers and world-class researchers in the water family are the general goals of the chair. The chair's general objective is to promote the international status of the Islamic Republic of Iran in global water forums. The UNESCO Chair on Water Reuse has systematically pursued three approaches, which serve as a roadmap for the chair's performance and are reflected in its policies and activities.
